This vintage basket is made in the historical style of the Nantucket Lightship baskets. Born in the 1800s aboard floating lighthouse ships off the coast of Nantucket, these baskets were originally crafted by sailors passing long hours at sea. Over time, the tradition came ashore and became a celebrated island art form, each basket a small piece of maritime history, meant to be used, cherished, and eventually passed down. An heirloom for those who love honest materials, coastal nostalgia, and objects made to last.
