Meet Mae! We adore "Flying Geese" patchwork quilts for their historical significance and bold geometric artistry. This gorgeous quilt has a cool toned, neutral color palette that is both calming and grounding. The blend of blues, blush, teal and creams make it easy to fit in with a wide-range of aesthetics, while complimenting many styles. This hand-stitched beauty uses triangles along the border in a wonderful way, creating a look that is hard to find.

The Flying Geese quilt pattern has a history that dates back to the 1800s and may have been used as a code by enslaved people during the Underground Railroad. Some say that quilts with the Flying Geese pattern hung outside homes could have signaled enslaved people to follow the geese north to Canada and freedom. The pattern's use of light and dark triangles to create the illusion of migrating birds in a follow-the-leader formation may have also indicated the direction of travel, with arrows pointing to food, water, and shelter.

Quilts are special for their unique blend of artistry, history, and craftsmanship. Each handmade quilt is a labor of love, reflecting the quilter's creativity and skill while often preserving family heritage and cultural traditions. They provide warmth and comfort, symbolizing love and care, and serve as tangible expressions of personal stories or historical events.

The communal aspect of quilting fosters a sense of community and shared tradition, while the sustainable practice of using fabric scraps highlights resourcefulness. We believe the process of quilting offers therapeutic and meditative benefits, making quilts cherished treasures that embody both emotional and practical significance.
